- The birth of cinema in a form close to what we can observe now occurred on December 28, 1895, when the first cinema session was held on Boulevard des Capucines in one of the halls of the Grand Cafe.The first step towards cinema was taken in 1685, when the "magic lantern" was invented - the camera obscura.The second step towards cinema was taken in 1832 by Michael Faraday and his friend Max Roger. All of Europe tried to invent an apparatus to revive the drawing. Faraday's instrument was called the phenakistiscope.
