Background
To contribute to large-scale higher education reform and to celebrate the Year of Quality Education in 2023 the Ministry of higher education, Science and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the British Council launched a series of policy discussions around university governance. The series aims to explore different dimensions of higher education governance, drawing from Uzbekistan’s and UK’s experience to benefit national higher education governance system and structures.
The first two webinars focussed on higher education development priorities for Uzbekistan and covered the basics of Higher Education governance in the UK context with a focus on typical university governing body structure and membership, national regulation. They also focussed on key relations between executive and Governing Boards and shared rectors’, VC’s and CEO’s perspective on how the Governing Boards contribute to quality assurance and vision for university development.
On February 24, 2023, we organised the policy discussion which was the third in a series and focused on building and growing governance culture and discussed how we all build and sustain effective governance within and across our universities.
On March 27, 2023, we will run the fourth webinar in the series which will focus on academic governance via academic boards.
