ELECTION INFORMATION
The Town of North Brentwood election for Mayor and one (1) council seat will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017. Polls open from 1pm – 7pm at the North Brentwood Municipal Center, 4009 Wallace Road, North Brentwood, Maryland. Please use the side entrance of the building. Voter registration If you are registered to vote with the Prince George’s County Board of Elections at a North Brentwood address, then you are registered to vote in the town’s elections. All new voter registrations and changes of address must be received by the Prince George’s Board of elections by March 31, 2017. Voter registrations forms are available online http://www.elections.state.md.us/voter_registration/application.html (There is an underscore between voter and registration.) Absentee Ballots Voters who will be absent from the Town election and who cannot personally appear to vote at the polls on election day because of illness or physical disability may apply to vote by absentee ballot. Applications or letter stating the need for an absentee ballot (including the reason why you will not be able to appear personally) must be received at the town office no later than April 24, cob 1pm. Your application or letter will be reviewed and you will be sent an absentee ballot. The ballot must be in a sealed envelope, mailed and received in the town office no later than Friday, April 28, 2017, cob, 1pm.
Candidates for Mayor must have resided in the town for at least 2 years immediately preceding the election, must be at least 25 years of age and a qualified voter of the Town. Candidates for the Council Seat must have resided in the town for at least 1 year immediately preceding the election and a qualified voter of the Town. Petitions for Candidates In order for a candidate’s name to be placed on the ballot, he or she must submit a petition for Mayoral candidacy or a petition for councilmember candidacy to one of the election judges. The petition for mayoral candidacy requires 20 signatures of registered town voters. It is advisable to get more than 20. The petition for the councilmember seat requires 10 signatures of registered town voters. It is advisable to get more than 10. The petitions can be obtained at the town’s office or from town’s website: www.northbrentwood.com . Your petition must be delivered to one of the election judges no later than Friday, March 31, 2017 cob, 5:30pm. Petitions must be submitted to Attn: Board of Supervisor of elections, Town of North Brentwood, 4009 Wallace Road, North Brentwood, Maryland 20722. The election judge will certify each petition.
