The school year has gotten off to a wonderful
start. I would like to thank all of our parents for
their cooperation in following our arrival and
dismissal procedures. I would also like to thank
all those volunteers for their assistance in
transitioning into the new school year.
Communication between parents and teachers
is critical in a student’s success. The student
agenda is a wonderful tool for communicating
with your child’s teacher. It is also a good idea
to schedule a conference with your child’s
teacher so that you can discuss your child’s
I am so excited to announce that in an effort to
develop students’ STEAM (Science, Technology.
Art and Mathematics) skills, our second graders
have started gardening. Each second grade class
has a garden box outside their classrooms for the
students to care for. They will be growing
various herbs and vegetables as they learn what
is necessary to have a garden flourish and what
plants need to survive. Over the last week the
seeds have started to sprout and plants are
developing. I look forward to seeing the
development of these gardens.

IMPROVING YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCE
At North Andrews Gardens Elementary our staff
is dedicated to providing the best possible
learning opportunity for our students. However,
we cannot help students learn when they are not
in school. Students with a high absentee rate do
not perform as well as students with regular
attendance. Make up work is not a substitute for
student teacher interaction to support learning.
Simply being late 10 minutes a day will cause
students to lose 30 hours of instruction over the
course of the school year.
When a student is absent the school needs to be
informed of the reason for absence either by
calling the school attendance line at 754-‐322-‐
7302 or sending in a note. Acceptable reasons
for absence are listed in the Elementary Student
Code of Conduct. Failure to contact the school
will result in the absence being marked as
Students who develop a pattern of non-‐
attendance may be reported to BTIP (Broward
Truancy Intervention Program). Frequent
absences (excused and unexcused), excessive
tardiness and early sign outs may indicate a
pattern of non-‐attendance. In addition, a poor
