Sidewalks Added To

North Fort Myers’ Palmona Park S

Fort Myers, FL, March 8, 2018

Sidewalks have been added along five residential streets in Palmona

Park using $1.8 million in federal Community Development Block Grant Funds from the U.S. Department

of Housing and Urban Development.

Palmona Park is a residential community located north of Pine Island Road between U.S. 41 and North

Tamiami Trail/Old U.S. 41. About 12,500 linear feet of 5-foot-wide, ADA-compliant sidewalks have been

added along Redlin, San Bernardino, Ellis, Clark and State streets.

The Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program provides annual grants to cities and

counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living

environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income

Lee County Human and Veteran Services manages the grant and Palmona Park is one of five

neighborhoods designated to benefit from these funds. Human and Veteran Services worked closely with

residents from Palmona Park who identified sidewalks as a need in their neighborhood. This project

follows previous efforts in in Palmona Park that have added sidewalks along 11 The U.S. Housing and

Urban Development other streets with CDBG funds.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the population of Palmona Park is 1,146. Many residents walk or ride

LeeTran to the numerous commercial properties and facilities surrounding the neighborhood, including

children walking to school.
