Introduction

  • The aim of my course paper is to explore the theoretical aspects of teaching grammar and reflect these theories in practice by providing relevant materials.

  • To reach the aim, I put forward the following tasks:
  • to investigate principles of teaching grammar
  • to get known about various methods in conducting grammar lessons
  • to get acquainted the ways of making it easy for students to learn grammar
  • to summarize the significance of learning grammar

  • The object of the course paper is to investigate how to teach grammar to B1 level
  • The subject to conduct research about methods to teach B1 grammar
  • The tasks of the investigation include:
  • Tо givе infоrmаtiоn аbоut how to teach grammar to B1 level learners;
  • Tо assess the students;
  • Tо demonstrate some activities for improving students’ knowledge;
  • The novelty of the course paper is that I tried to assess grammar using a range of skills such as reading and speaking.

Chapter 1. §1.1 Theoretical background of teaching grammar

  • Grammar originally meant the art of reading and writing free art
  • The most important task of teaching grammar is "the formation of students' grammatical skills in productive and receptive types of speech activity.
  • The communicative goal
  • two main approaches to teaching grammar:
  • Explicit  inductive and deductive
  • Implicit  situational and communicative.

§1.2 Assessing grammar of B1 level students

  • Objective assessment
  • Subjective evaluation
  • Verb tenses: present perfect continuous and past perfect
  • Different ways to express the future: be going to, the present continuous and present simple
  • Phrasal verbs – verbs followed by an adverb or preposition that often completely change the meaning of the original verb, and which are very common in English.
  • Zero, First and Second Conditionals
  • Expressing desires: I wish, I hope, If only…
  • Nouns, adjectives and verbs followed by prepositions

  • After analyzing the methodology of teaching grammar, we can conclude that teaching grammar at school should occupy one of the leading positions, since grammatical skill is one of the components of speaking.
  • In teaching the grammatical aspect, the most widely used methods are used, such as:
  • grammar and translation;
  • straight;
  • natural;
  • communicative.
