The English usually have 4 meals a day: breakfast, lunch, tea (5 o'clock), and dinner. Breakfast can be a full "English breakfast" of corn flakes with milk and sugar, or bacon and eggs, toast and marmalade, tea or coffee. Some people, however, have just a cup of tea or coffee with a toast. This is usually called a "continental breakfast".
At midday everything is stopped for lunch. Most offices and small shops are closed for an hour and the city pavements are full of people on their way to cafes, coffee bars, restaurants. Factory and plant workers usually eat in their canteens.
The English like what they call "good plain food". Usually they like steak, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and fish and chips.
Afternoon tea is taken at about 5 o'clock, but it can hardly be called a meal. It is a cup of tea and a cake or biscuits. At the weekends afternoon tea is a special occasion.
Friends and visitors are often invited to have a chat over a cup of tea.
Dinner is the most substantial meal of the whole day. It is usually eaten at 7 o'clock.
The first course may be soup (though the English don't like it very much).
The main course will often be fish or meat, perhaps the traditional roast beef of old England, and a lot of vegetables.
The, next course will be something sweet and often baked, such as a fruit pie. Last of all there may be cheese, often with biscuits.
It is common knowledge that the English are very fond of tea. They like to have "a nice cup of tea" 6 or 8 times a day, sometimes even more.
On Christmas Day a roast turkey is traditionally cooked for dinner. It is usually followed by Christmas pudding.
My favourite video film is “Titanic”. It tells the story of a famous ship, the “Titanic”, which sank in 1912. The “Titanic” was a colossal ship even by modern standards. Its tragic sinking will always be remembered, for the ship went down on the first voyage with heavy losses.
The director of the film is James Cameron. The main parts in the film are played by young actors Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet. To my mind their acting is superb. The camerawork is fantastic, too. I’ve heard that they made a full-size model of the “Titanic” for this film.
It’s a very spectacular film. It is also a moving love-story. I advise all my friends to see “Titanic”. The film was awarded 11 Oscars and I’m sure it deserves every one of them.
My favourite dish is pilaf. Pilaf is well-known all over the world and is loved by many people. It is hard to say where it was first cooked but nowadays this dish is common in many different cultures. Especially it is common in Middle Eastern, Caucasian and Asian countries.
Today there are a lot of variations of this dish. So, pilaf is not only associated with rice and meat. There can also be fish, vegetables and fruit among its ingredients. In addition to that pilaf recipes vary from nation to nation. The proportion of the ingredients also plays a great role and influences the taste of pilaf. There are a lot of different ways to cook pilaf and some of them are kept a secret. It is needless to say that one can hardly get bored with pilaf.
Pilaf is also a good dish for those who like kitchen experiments. With so many recipes and variations there is always an opportunity to learn something new and widen one’s skills.
I also love cooking pilaf. I often cook this delicious dish for family dinner. I usually cook it with beef but sometimes I cook it with chicken.
To my mind, despite its rather simple ingredients pilaf adds a bit of festive touch to the table. I like soft texture of braised meat and taste of rice cooked in its broth. I think that a pilaf recipe should be a must-have in every home’s cookbook.
An identity document (also called a piece of identification or ID, or colloquially as papers) is any document which may be used to prove a person's identity. If issued in a small, standard credit card size form, it is usually called an identity card (IC, ID card, Citizen Card),[a] or Passport Card.[b] Some countries issue formal identity documents, while others may require identity verification using informal documents. When the identity document incorporates a person's photograph, it may be called photo ID.
In the absence of a formal identity document, a driver's license may be accepted in many countries for identity verification. Some countries do not accept driver's licenses for identification, often because in those countries they do not expire as documents and can be old or easily forged. Most countries accept passports as a form of identification. Some countries require all people to have an identity document available at any time. Many countries require all foreigners to have a passport or occasionally a national identity card from their country available at any time if they do not have a residence permit in the country.
The identity document is used to connect a person to information about the person, often in a database. The photo and the possession of it is used to connect the person with the document. The connection between the identity document and information database is based on personal information present on the document, such as the bearer's full name, age, birth date, address, an identification number, card number, gender, citizenship and more. A unique national identification number is the most secure way, but some countries lack such numbers or don't write them on identity documents.
Today English is the language of the world. It is only in the course of the last hundred years that English has become a world language. In Shakespeare’s time it was a “provincial” language of secondary importance with only 6 million native speakers. Nowadays over 300 million people speak it as a mother tongue.
English is the official language of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of the United States of America, of Australia and New Zealand. It is used as one of the official languages in Canada, the Republic of South Africa and the Irish Republic.
English is also spoken as a second language in the former British and US colonies. In a number of speakers (400 million) it is second only to Chinese.
English is the major international language of communication in such areas as science, technology and business. It is the language of literature, education, modem music, and international tourism. English is the major language of diplomacy, it is one of the official languages of the United Nation organization and other political organizations.
Russia is integrating into the world community and the problem of learning English for the purpose of communication is especially urgent today.
One should say that English is not an easy language to learn. There is a big problem of spelling, of the large number of exceptions to any rule. This language is very idiomatic and the prepositions are terrible. English is one of those languages which may seem easy in the beginning, but then the bridge between basic knowledge and mastery takes a long time to cross. But if you cross this bridge it will give you great satisfaction. You will be able to speak to people from other countries, to read foreign authors in the original, which makes your outlook wider. To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated man, for every good specialist.
people accept money in exchange for goods and services. But the role ofmoney depends on the state of development of an economy. Money hasbecome an essential element of economies based on the division of labour, inwhich individuals have specialized in certain activities and enterprises havefocused on manufacturing specific goods and rendering specific services. Inorder to make transactions as simple and efficient as possible, theintroduction of a generally accepted medium of exchange suggested itself.
Money performs the function of a medium of exchange or means of paymentwith goods being exchanged for money and money for goods. At the sametime it also acts as a unit of account.
Money is a store of value, as part of an individual's income may be set asidefor future consumption.
These three functions of money - medium of exchange, unit of account andstore of value - can only be fulfilled if there is great confidence in its stabilityof value. Safeguarding monetary stability is the primary task of the centralbanks all over the world. Moreover, the central bank has the function ofregulating the money supply in order to guarantee a smooth functioning ofthe monetary system.
