Danyan-Kunshan hole bridge-164.8 km

China is not the only country building large and expensive bridges. But it was here that the three longest bridges over the water in the world were built. The longest of them is the Danyan-Kunshan facility, which connects Shanghai with the city of Nanjing, is recorded in the Guinness Book of records.

The bridge, reinforced with 9,500 concrete piles, was opened in 2011. According to various sources, from 8.5 to 10 billion dollars were spent on this construction, attracting 10 thousand people.

Danyan-Kunshan is unique in that it crosses rivers, canals, ravines and streams, Plains and hills, lakes and waterfalls. Most of the land on the River Plain consists of soft soils, not hard rocks. For this reason, the builders were faced with the task of building the bridge so that it was universal and as stable as possible. The projectors decided to build a viaduct shape - consisting of many small spans that give the bridge the flexibility it needs. At the same time a large number of small spans ensures that the bridge remains extremely robust over its entire length than a few very long ones.
