The two pie charts compare the share of five different types of fuel sources which produce electricity in France from 1990 to 2010. Overall, it is noticeable that the proportion of production of nuclear power saw a significant increase over two decades while that of natural gas decreased dramatically. By 2010, the nuclear power became the most vital source in producing electricity among others.
In 1990, almost all sources contributed relatively equally to the generation of electricity, yet the least used one was hydro power with only 6 %. The figure for oil was 22 %, well ahead of nuclear power with 17%. This was followed by both coal and natural gas with the same amount of electricity at 28% each.
After 20 years, the percentages of sources in generating electricity changed considerable. The nuclear power had a considerable rise to staggering 67%, whereas the natural gas declined markedly to 4%. The proportion of coal and oil also saw a decrease, reaching the same 13%. In addition, hydro power reached a low percentage at only 2 %.
