I remember a conversation in 2016 with a teacher named Anvar, who was serving in the military in a distant country, Russia.

Opening

At that time, two months before I had a toothache and went to a military hospital. When I arrived earlier, the dentist's room was locked. I went out into the yard. At that moment, a voice called out, "Girls, come." At the door stood a woman in a white robe, her eyes resembling those of Sanam Yang. She saw me and asked how I was. I told her I was the only Central Asian soldier in the garrison.

When I went out to extract my aching tooth, the girls were waiting for me with their mother and father. I stayed attheir house for an hour. When I returned, she handed me two Uzbek loaves of bread. I ate bread with a great appetite and it smelled like homeland.
