Listening Part 1: Questions 1 – 10
The test taker will hear a conversation between TWO speakers. They will be discussing a general, every day or social topic (for example a discussion about travel arrangements for a trip). The focus is on listening for specific factual information. Listening Part 2: Questions 11 – 20 The topic will be a general everyday topic, by ONE speaker only. The test taker must listen to this person giving information about a public event, a service provided, etc. (for example, a speech about local facilities). The focus is on listening for specific factual information. Listening Part 3: Questions 21 – 30 The topic will be related to educational needs or training situations and will be a conversation between TWO, THREE, or FOUR speakers, for example, an assignment for a course, a topic discussed in a tutorial, etc. The focus will again be listening for specific factual information but in addition, the test taker will have to listen for the speakers’ opinions or attitudes about the topic. Listening Part 4: Questions 31 – 40 The topic will be academic or study-related. The test taker will have to listen to ONE person speaking (e.g. someone giving a lecture or a talk). Again the test taker must listen for specific factual information but also for main ideas, as well as the opinions or attitudes of the speaker. Marks Each question is worth 1 mark. Students will receive a final score given as a Band score or half Band e.g. 4.5 or 6.0. Handy HintsTest takers are allowed approximately 30 seconds to read the questions before the test begins. Encourage your students to use this time to check what types of answers are needed (e.g. dates, times, names, prices, etc.). Remind your students to be careful when writing their answers on the answer sheet because they will lose marks for incorrect spelling and grammar. Here you can find a sample blank answer sheet for the listening test which you can show your students as an example. 3.
