Task Format: This type of question may be a question with three possible answers or the first half of a sentence with three possible endings. To answer the question, the test taker will have to choose one correct answer, A, B or C. Remind your students to read the questions very carefully because sometimes there is a longer list given and the test taker must choose more than one correct answer.
Task Focus: Multiple choice questions test many different listening skills (e.g. detailed understanding of specific points, general understanding of main points). Task Type 2 – Matching Task Format: With this type of question the test taker will have to match a list of items from the recording to a list of options on the question paper. The set of options may be criteria of some kind. Task Focus: Your students will have to be able to do the following things: Listen for detailed information. Follow a conversation between two people. Understand relationships and connections between facts. Task Type 3 – Plan / Map / Diagram Labeling / Classification Task Format: This type of question involves completing labels on a visual, which could be: a diagram (e.g. a piece of equipment) a set of pictures a plan (e.g. of a building) a map (e.g. a part of a city) To answer these types of questions, your students will have to be able to: choose answers from a list on the question paper choose words from the recording which fill the gaps on the question paper Task Focus: These types of questions test the ability to understand descriptions and how the descriptions relate to the visuals.
