M2M communications:
M2M communications are characterized by fully automatic data generation, exchange, processing and actuation among intelligent machines, without or with low intervention of humans. M2M networks are expected to be utilized in many fields of applications where machines would be low cost, so that they can be easily embedded in real fields and extensively deployed in a large scale. Networks uncertainty and mobility often lead to complex interference within M2M networks themselves, as well as between M2M networks and cellular networks, and the best suggested solution for this problem is cognitive M2M (CM2M) which can enhance the flexibility, efficiency and reliability of M2M communications. Cognitive radio enabled machines are able to sense and utilize unused frequency bands in their surroundings. “Figure 4 Applications of CM2M communications” shows different CM2M communication scenarios. Reasons for using CM2M are discussed in details in [2]. Seminar Page 12 5G WIRELESS NETWORK Figure 4 Applications of CM2M communications Internet of things (IoT): 5G will make the “Internet of Things” a reality. With 5G technology, a device will be able to maintain network connectivity regardless of time and location, and open the possibility to connect all the connected devices without human intervention. The 5G system design is expected to provide support for up to a million simultaneous connections per square kilometer, enabling a variety of machine-to-machine services including wireless metering, mobile payments, smart grid and critical infrastructure monitoring, connected home, smart transportation, and telemedicine. Intelligent devices will communicate with each other autonomously in the background and share information freely. This universal connectivity will truly enable IoT services which in turn is expected to profoundly change human lives by connecting virtually everything as shown in Figure 5 Internet of Things (IoT).
