The electric motor’s torque and speed characteristic exposes one of the most important differences in comparison to the performance characteristic of combustion engine powered tractors. Whereas the torque curve of the combustion engine reaches a peak next to the maximum speed nmax, the electric motor delivers its nominal torque Mn from standstill nₒ to nominal speed nₙ. Another characteristic of the electric motor that has a significant influence on the tractor’s pulling performance, is its torque reserve. For a limited time it is able to generate several times the nominal torque.
