The aim of the research is to highlight the evolution of Uzbekistan's historic cities, issues of socio-economic life and urban culture from ancient times to the early twentieth century on the basis of the available archaeological, written, historical and scientific literature, and to determine the stage of progress and development.
Research Objectives: To summarise, comparatively analyse and systematise data from various available sources on ancient cities, to draw attention to historiographical issues:
On the basis of the data collected, show the importance of cities as political-administrative, economic and major cultural centres;
to analyse the formation of ancient cities and identify the peculiarities of early urbanisation processes in the region
identify factors influencing the development of ancient cities and examine the traditions of local urban development;
studying urban structures (ark, rabad, madinah, shahristan) in the Middle Ages and identifying their functions
Analysis of materials on towns in the region during the period of Russian rule, to provide information on parts of the "New Town".
