Assignment 1: Determining the Microclimate for Entrepreneurs in the Fergana Region Conduct research on the current economic and business environment in the Fergana region. The experts presented the main changes in the socio-economic development of the region as a result of active reforms over the past year. Fergana region is located in the east of the Republic, in the south of the Fergana Valley. It is bordered by Namangan and Andijan regions in the north, Kyrgyzstan in the south and east and the Republic of Tajikistan in the west. Fergana region is the most densely populated area. The structure of the regional industry consists of activities such as food, textiles, chemicals, oil refining and other non-metallic mineral products, and the regional industry specializes in the production of light industry, food, construction materials. The region specializes in services in the field of transport, trade, finance, communications and information, education, as well as trade, financial and transport services. During 2017-2020, the gross regional product (GRP) of the region increased by 14% and amounted to 37.6 trillion soums. Industrial production increased from 8.0 trillion soums to 21.7 trillion soums (8% increase). Agricultural production increased by 15% from 10.0 trillion soums in 2016 to 22.1 trillion soums in 2020. The number of enterprises operating in the region increased by 56%, from 34.3 thousand in 2016 to 53.6 thousand in 2020. In the field of infrastructure development in 2016-2020, 187 km of gas pipelines, 26 km of roads and 1,620 km of water supply networks were laid.About 179,000 new jobs have been created in Fergana region over the past five years. During this period, 4,782,000 square meters of housing were commissioned in the region, 12.3 thousand in preschool institutions, 30.1 thousand in schools and 2.7 thousand in hospitals Identify and describe the key industries and sectors in the Fergana region. In January-March 2023, the total volume of products (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the Ferghana region amounted to 3,448.6 billion soums, or 103.5 % compared to the corresponding period last year. The share of this region in the total volume of products (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of the republic amounted to 8.5 %. Assess the access to financing options and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs in the Fergana region In January - June 2022, in the Fergana region, 493.0 billion soums were disbursed through loans from commercial banks and other borrowed funds (6.9% of total investment in fixed assets, and more by 0.8% p.p. compared to the same period last year), foreign loans guaranteed by the Republic of Uzbekistan - 230.2 billion soums (increased by 1.6% and amounted to 3.2%), other foreign investments and non-guaranteed loans - 1828.5 billion soums (increased by 3.7% and amounted to 25.5%), the Republican budget 368.5 billion soums (increased by 0.2% and amounted to 5.1%), the Fund for the Development of Water Supply and Sewerage Systems - 62.5 billion. sum (decreased by 0.7% and amounted to 0.9%). This guide was prepared in order to provide essential information regarding the Fergana Valley to prospective foreign investors and other interested parties. It presents an overall economic review of the region, including its investment climate, the opportunities available in selected sectors including automobile manufacturing, construction materials, chemical production, textiles and other industries, and an overview of existing investment projects offered. This publication complements Investment Guides to Uzbekistan and Catalogues of Investment Opportunities, by highlighting investment opportunities for investors specifically interested in the region.
