My day off

My day off

On Sunday I get up later than usually, make my bed, go to the bathroom, wash my face and clean my teeth. Then we have breakfast all together. On Sunday my mother usually bakes pancakes, they are very delicious. We drink tea or coffee and eat pancakes with jam. After breakfast I help my mother to clear the table and wash the dishes.

Then I go outside to play with my friends. In winter we go skiing. In summer my father and I go to the swimming pool, especially when it is very hot.

At one o’clock we have dinner.

After dinner we have a short rest. My father goes to his study and reads newspapers. My mother watches TV, my younger sister sleeps. I usually go to my room, read a book, listen to music or do my homework for the next week.

In the evening we go to the park all together. It’s very big and beautiful. There are a lot of different park amusements there. My sister and I like to go on the rides very much or just go for a walk with our parents. Our mother and father often buy us candy floss or popcorn. Then we go to a café and order the biggest pizza. We eat, talk and laugh.

We come home at ten o’clock in the evening, satisfied, tired and very happy that we have had such a wonderful day off.

My usual day off starts without an alarm clock. I sleep as much as I want and wake up feeling well rested. I do morning exercises, take a shower, brush my teeth and go to the kitchen to cook breakfast. I take my laptop and watch new videos on my favorite YouTube channels while cooking and eating. After breakfast, I wash dishes and do some cleaning in the kitchen.
In the afternoon, I often go for a walk in the park or along the river. I always take my MP3 player and listen to an audiobook while walking. I take some food from home and eat it outdoors or go to a café for a cup of coffee with a slice of cheesecake. I am fond of little cozy cafes with unique atmosphere and original cuisine. The staff is often very friendly at such places.

If some cultural or entertaining events take place, I usually visit them. Most of all, I like exhibitions of photos or pictures and live music concerts. I listen to jazz at home, but I prefer classical music when it comes to live performances. So I am a regular visitor of our city’s concert hall.

In the evening, I meet with friends and we go to the cinema or to a disco. Watching new movies is captivating, it gives us new themes for evening discussions. Dancing energizes and cheers up, but it’s important to choose a club with decent guests and nice music. Lately, I’ve been to Yellow Jazz Bar a lot. It’s a good place for adults as well as teenagers.

When I come home, I take a bath and change clothes. I eat something light for dinner – a salad or a vegetable soup. We have conversations with my Mom and Dad, sometimes we watch a film together. Then I make a big cup of tea, take some sweets and go to my room. Reading a book before going to sleep is one of the biggest pleasures for me. I can read a hundred pages at once, if the book is interesting.

I live in a 5-storied block of flats in Yushno-Sakhalinsk. It's not a very picturesque place but we have a yard and a Kodak Express studio under the window.
My flat is on the third floor. It's very comfortable and well planned. I have all modern conveniences, such as central heating, electricity, cold and hot running water and a telephone. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony in it. The largest room in my flat is the living room. My family uses it as a sitting room. There is a sofa, two armchairs, a coffee table, a TV set and a VCR (video) in it.

We have two small rooms in our flat and one of them is mine. It is not big but very cosy. There is a wardrobe near the wall and a desk near the window. My bed is at the left corner. I like my room very much because it is my room.

Our kitchen is not very large but it is light. It's very well equipped. We have got a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a coffee maker and a toaster. In evenings we like to have tea and have rest in it.

I am always looking forward to Saturdays and Sundays, because they are my days off. As a rule, my days off don't differ very much from each other. I usually get up an hour later than on my working days. I usually spend my Saturday and Sunday watching TV, reading books, walking, visiting my friends and so on.
But the way of spending my days off much depends upon the season. In winter my family and me go on skiing or sledging or playing snowballs. In summer we can go swimming or boating or hiking. In autumn we take long walks during which we enjoy beautiful golden autumn or go picking mushrooms and berries in the forest. In the forest we gather brushwood for fire, make it and cook barbeque. We enjoy spending our days off together.
Sometimes I go to the cinema or to the dancing hall with my friends.
But most of all I like visiting my grandparents. It's always glorious. In their country-house I may do what I want. I may stay in bed till 10 o'clock. And the breakfast is brought up into my room. My granny cooks delicious chicken, roast potatoes and pies. She serves the table with different kinds of fruit from the garden: apples, pears, apricots. In other words, there is almost everything you might wish. And the house looks very sweet. My grandparents always invite me to spend my weekend with them. I help them in the yard and in the garden. But the only thought about starting a new week makes me unhappy. I know that I have to get up at 6:30. That's practically the middle of the night in late autumn and in winter. My greatest dislike is to get up early.
I don't want to be so pessimistic, but it seems to me that my days off finish very quickly. I like to be an optimist who will say: "The cup is half full", wMy name is Alissa. I’m sixteen years old. I’ve moved to Moscow recently. I study five days a week that’s why I try to spend my two days off merrily and interestingly.
In the morning I wake up later than usual. I like to lie slugging a bed and to watch TV. Television shows many interesting programmes on Sunday.
My mother cooks something delicious at the weekend. She bakes cakes or sweet buns. We have breakfast together and then walk around the town. I’m fond of painting that’s why I like to visit art exhibitions. In the evening I meet with friends and we go the cinema. After the film we spend time in any cafe and compare notes.
Sometimes I can’t meet with friends and then I spend the whole evening with my parents and elder sister. We go to the theatre or to the concert hall together. I love my day off very much because I can have a good rest and collect my strength for a whole week.
While the pessimist will say: " The cup is half empty". But I am happy to live my busy life day by day and enjoy the weekends.
And every Sunday when I go to bed I think that my day off flashed past, and the new week will bring new problems and their solution.
