- Throughout his life, Ben wanted to help ordinary people through education, and by keeping them safe. He did this by opening a University; by starting a firefighting company; and by founding the first subscription library. He believed in people having freedom to decide things for themselves. Another word for freedom is liberty. That’s why Franklin is also known as a SON OF LIBERTY!

Astonishing Ben ! - “This kite had a pointed wire fixed upon it, by which it drew the lightning from the clouds. This lightning descended by the string, and was received by a key tied to the extremity of it.”

- Ben helped to write the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This document was the Americans’ way of saying “we want to be a free country” rather than being ruled by England. Ben was then also known as Dr Diplomacy!
- Mrs Polly Hewson, the daughter of Franklin’s landlady, knew about Franklin’s different personas. She was like his sidekick, and he taught her all about science.
