The two semifinals will be played Friday starting at 1 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast live on the Tennis Channel,

The tournament is just one round away from a possible Indian Wells tournament final rematch between No. 1 seed
Carlos Alcaraz and No. 4 seed Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz dispatched Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinal, while
Medvedev cleared through Christopher Eubanks 6-3, 7-5.
First, Medvedev will have to battle through Khachanov, who beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinal.
Alcaraz will need a win over Sinner, who beat Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3, 6-1.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The hopes of American men’s tennis rest largely on the talented rackets of Taylor
Fritz and Tommy Paul.
But a Spanish roadblock named Carlos Alcaraz is in the way – never more illustrated by the last few days at the
Miami Open.
Two days after routing the Australian Open semifinalist Paul, the top-ranked Alcaraz took his spectacular arsenal to
the highest-ranked American man in No. 10 Fritz and blasted into the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at Hard Rock
Stadium.
In the women’s draw, Elena Rybakina advanced to Saturday’s finals with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over Jessica Pegula in
a match delayed twice by rain.
Rybakina, the Wimbledon champion, won her 13th straight match and is seeking to become the fifth woman to
achieve the “sunshine double” — back-to-back titles in the hard-court tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami.

Before a packed crowd that included John McEnroe and was split in support, Alcaraz broke Fritz’s serve in the first
game. He used that one break to squeak out the first set and finished the match in tidy 1 hour, 18 minutes. Alcaraz
faced just two break points and turned away both chances as he improved his match record to 18-1 in 2023.
“I took the opportunity of every break point I had,” the Spaniard said. “I was solid and aggressive at the same time.”
This was the first meeting between the two and an opportunity for Fritz to assess how close he is to a breakthrough.
The match was postponed Wednesday night, only delaying the inevitable.
“Obviously playing the best player in the world, you can’t just drop your serve to start both sets,” Fritz said. “He
doesn’t give you much for free. ... All the important points in the match, he won.”
The 19-year-old Alcaraz proved too tough in Miami against two Americans who reside in South Florida. Fritz moved
recently to Miami and Paul has lived in the Delray Beach/Boca Raton area for years.
Alcaraz will play Jannik Sinner in Friday’s semifinals, a rematch of their semifinal at Indian Wells, where Alcaraz
went on to win the title.
The reigning U.S. Open champion and defending Miami Open champion boasts a glorious drop shot, beautifully
controlled groundstrokes and a sneaky net game. Alcaraz’s graceful court coverage is reminiscent of his countryman
Rafael Nadal. There are no clear weaknesses, as Fritz found out.
Jannik Sinner was the Miami Open’s first semifinalist after winning his quarterfinal match over 24 hours earlier.
Sinner defeated surprise quarterfinalist Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3 6-1, winning a jaw-dropping 22 of 24 first-serve points.
The 21-year-old Italian is among the early pacesetters in 2023. He is third on the ATP leaderboard among the players
with the most match wins this season with 20.
One of those rarest accomplishments in tennis is winning the Sunshine Double. And Carlos Alcaraz is onto something
even bigger at this year’s Sunshine Swing. Alcaraz would become the first player in history to sweep the March
Masters without dropping a set–a feat that was beyond the reach even to previous winners such as Djokovic, Federer,
and Steffi Graf. And not only that, but Alcaraz would also retain the No. 1 ranking ahead of the clay swing which
begins next week should he win the tournament.
Sinner believes he is getting closer to the perfect version of the player he wants to become and enters this match with
an advantage from a physical standpoint. However, Alcaraz is quickly developing into a veritable highlight reel,
hardly breaking a sweat. His straight-sets dismissal of Taylor Fritz was a sumptuous display of pitch-perfect tennis
from start to finish. Alcaraz came up with his full repertoire to breach the American’s defenses leaving those inside the
Hard Rock Stadium utterly astonished at the quality of the shots he was able to produce under pressure. Fine margins
are what the Sinner and Alcaraz rivalry has developed into. And with Sinner losing their last two high-stake clashes,
he is really up against it on Friday.
