Writing by Using Correct Grammar Despite the fact that communication skills should become the focus for teaching English language for elementary level students, it is important to pay attention to grammar to guarantee higher learning outcomes in EFL context. Even elementary level students should pay attention to grammar rules and study them precisely. Obviously, the grammar aspects discussed at this level should be presented in a limited way. Students must know the basics of grammar in English. Speaking English, students should understand the way how the phrases are composed, what issues formation of a sentence and how the language is structured in general. Grammar skills developed at the elementary level should be limited to understanding the cases when upper- and lowercase letters should be used, how to apply the most frequently use nouns and verbs, how to create plural forms, how to ask the simplest questions using the interrogatives, and how to use the prepositions, which are the most frequent in daily communication. The correct grammar use in writing will guarantee a correct use of the English language in communication. Overall, grammar use in writing should be the only way of applying written competence at the elementary level. Having acquired this information, the further success in learning English as a foreign language will guarantee higher learning outcomes. First phase I IV grade). The primary task in this phase is to teach the learners the phonological system by imitation, since this is the most favourable period for imitating pronunciation. It is practised using the most frequent grammar drill to practise a pattern or a group of patterns which occur in the context of dialogue presentation. Grammatical features are practised, but without any linguistic explanation. Second phase V, VI grade) Any grammar course should begin with tenses to be introduced one by one, taking into account that children have not yet learnt the grammar of their own native language quite well. Introducing grammar should be concentrated on the very basic and elementary structures, with concrete, simple and clear explanations, with definitions in the mother tongue, using formulas when necessary. Third phase VII, VIII grade) Teaching grammar precedes concentric circles, spreading always more and more the knowledge of the precedent phases. At the age of puberty oral and mechanical acquisition is replaced by a cognitive learning process. A conscious activity principle is always the final goal in language teaching. Starting with mechanical imitation, it should end in conscious generalisation. At this level good learners, when adequately led, are capable of generalisation and they feel happy and satisfied in doing it successfully. Besides induction, deduction is to be used as these two methods are complementary. Deduction is suitable in explaining analogies and similarities since induction was applied in introducing basic notions. Download 268.64 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
