LESSON 2. PAST “TO BE”.
There are two “to be” forms in the Past Tense: “was” is the past form of “am” and “is”, and it’s used with “I” and 3rd person singular: I was at home an hour ago. That man was at the party yesterday. “were” is the past form of “are”, and it’s used with “you” and all the plurals: You were a little girl when I was studying at university. They were in the garden at 5. Structure: P: S+was/were… She was at work last night. N: S+wasn’t/weren’t… She wasn’t at work last night. Sh.A.Q: Was/Were+S…? Was she at work last night? Yes, S(p)+was/were. Yes, she was. No, S(p)+wasn’t/weren’t No, she wasn’t. Q: Q.W.+was/were+S…? Where was she last night? LESSON 3. “TO BE” WITH THE FUTURE FORM “WILL” “will be” is used for all persons: I will be a student next year. She will be married soon. They will be present at the meeting. Structure: P: S+will be… It will be a nice day tomorrow. N: S+won’t be… It won’t be a nice day tomorrow. Sh.A.Q: Will+S+be…? Will it be a nice day tomorrow? Yes, S(p)+will. Yes, it will. No, S(p)+won’t No, it won’t. Q: Q.W.+will+S+be…? What day will it be tomorrow? х
LESSON 1. PRESENT SIMPLE. Structure: P: S+V(s)… I work in a school. Peter lives in Akhangaran. N: S+don’t/doesn’t+V… I don’t work in a school. Peter doesn’t live in Akhangaran. Sh.A.Q: Do/Does+S+V…? Do you work in a school? Does Peter live in Akhangaran? Yes, S(p)+do/does. Yes, I do. Yes, he does. No, S(p)+don’t/doesn’t. No, I don’t. No, he doesn’t. Q: Q.W.+do/does+S+V…? Where do you work? Where does Peter live? The Present Simple is used to talk about usual and repeated actions and routines: I watch TV in the evenings. My father goes to work at 9. The Present Simple is used to talk about habits: Cathy goes to bed very late. The Present Simple is used to talk about general facts: My brother works in a bank. Water boils at 100˚Celsius. The Present Simple is used for sports commentaries, reviews and narration: Hill kicks the ball and passes it to Dawson.(sports commentary) Laura Hunt acts superbly in the film.(review) So, the prince tells her…(narration) The Present Simple is used to give suggestions with “Why don’t you…?”: I’m very tired. Why don’t you go to bed? The Present Simple is used to talk about future according to timetables, TV programmes and announcements: The film starts at 9 o’clock. The train leaves Plymouth at 10:30.
