CHAPTER 1. TENSES.
UNIT 1. TO BE
LESSON 1. PRESENT “TO BE”.
It’s impossible to make sentences without verbs in English. So, if there isn’t a verb in sentences we use “to be”.
My car is new.
There are three “to be” forms in the Present Tense:
“am” is used with “I”. I am a student.
“is” is used with 3rd person singular. My friend is twenty years old.
“are” is used with “you” and all the plurals. You are right. My parents are very old.
Structure:
P: S+to be… This book is mine.
N: S+to be+not… This book isn’t mine.
Sh.A.Q.: To be+S…? Is this book yours?
Yes, S(p)+tobe. Yes, it is.
No, S(p)+to be+not. No, it isn’t.
Q: Q.W.+to be+S…? Whose is this book?
