LESSON 3. FUTURE SIMPLE
Structure:
P: S+will+V… They will call tomorrow.
N: S+won’t+V… They won’t call tomorrow.
Sh.A.Q: Will+S+V…? Will they call tomorrow?
Yes, S(p)+will. Yes, they will.
No, S(P)+won’t. No, they won’t
Q: Q.W.+will+S+V…? When will they call?


  • The Future Simple is used to talk about actions which will start at the said time in the future:

I will do some tests at 9 tomorrow. (I’ll start at 9)

  • The Future Simple is used to tell future actions in chronological order:

Tomorrow, I’ll do my homework, watch TV a little and then I’ll go to bed.

  • “Will” is used to …

  • offer our service: I’ll pay for you

  • refuse or agree to do something: Ok, I’ll repair your computer. My car won’t start in the morning.

  • promise: I promise I won’t tell it to anyone.

  • ask someone to do something for us: Will you pass the salt, please.



  • “Will” is usually used with the following words:

  • Probably I’ll probably be a bit late this evening.

  • (I’m)sure You must meet Ann. I’m sure you’ll like her.

  • (I)expect I expect Carol will get the job.

  • (I)think Do you think we will win the match?

  • (I)hope I hope I’ll pass the exam.



  • “Shall” can be used instead of “will” only with “I” and “we”. “Shall” can’t be used with other persons:

I shall go to Tashkent tomorrow. We shall play football with them one day.

  • To make suggestion or to ask for suggestion we use “Shall I” or “Shall we”:

Shall I close the window, it’s a bit cold here? Shall we watch the football match together?

Going to
Structure:
P: S+to be+going to+V… I’m going to travel the world one day.
N: S+to be+not+going to+V… I’m not going to study at university.
Sh. A.Q: To be+S+going to+V…? Are you going to travel to America?
Yes, S(p)+to be. Yes, I am.
No, S(p)+to be+not. No, I’m not.
Q: Q.W.+to be+S+going to+V…? Where are you going to travel?


  • “Will” is used to talk about just future facts: My mother will be at home tomorrow.



  • “Will” is used to make the first decision:

  • Let’s have a little party.

  • Ok, I’ll bring some drinks.




  • “Will” is used to just predict about future without any evidence now: Don’t worry you will pass the exam.



  • “Going to” is used to talk about future intentions and dreams: I’m going to be a doctor when I grow up.

  • Going to is used to talk about decisions which were made before: We decided to have a party with my colleagues. And, I’m going to bring some drinks.

  • “Going to” is used to predict about future according to the situation now: Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain.
