Conclusion
The theme of the work is teaching adults which is very a responsible and challenging issue. At the beginning, the definition of teaching was analysed, which is not as obvious as it sounds. What is more, each author gives its different versions. Subsequently, various methods of teaching English were presented. These methods can be divided into conventional and unconventional ones. Each of the described nine methods was characterized by different techniques and manners of teaching that suit diverse groups of students. It is not an easy task for the teacher to select appropriate teaching methods for specific students. The work proved that the Direct Method and Communicative Language Learning Method are the most appropriate methods for teaching adult learners. Thanks to these methods, students will feel relaxed and confident in the classroom and will also learn how to communicate in real - life situations. Then, characteristics of adults were presented. Teaching of older learners has both bad and good features. On the one hand, these students are highly motivated and are taking responsibility for their learning, but on the other hand they often have a problem with a lack of time and low attendance at classes. After examining the characteristics of the adults, the next important thing that has been broached here is the description of learning styles and strategies. The choice of the most fruitful and appropriate strategies was scrutinized as well. It turned out that Field Independent style was considered to be the adult style of learning conducive to attaining success in English. It can be concluded that the FI learners as well as adults like to penetrate the essence of problems and situations, analyse, consider and make up theories to understand their experience. Subsequently, metacognitive strategies have been identified as the most fruitful learning strategies. Metacognition is a fundamental component of skills that involve decision making, problem solving, reflective judgment and critical thinking. Older learners are very good in solving and analysing problems, but also in decisions making and critical thinking. So, there are so many different innovative methods of teaching adults which together with the traditional ones help us to instruct adults while learning foreign languages and organize the work in class. To conclude, the major concern is aiming at how to achieve the best result or a relatively better one in a given context. Adoptions of teaching methods involve such factors as purposes, age groups and stages of mental development. In our opinion the method of direct instruction and the method of electronic self-directed education are comparatively found suitable for adult beginners while method of pedagogic studio work and the method of interdisciplinary projecting are advisable suggest for those at intermediate and advanced level. Guided composition should be practised, combining two or three, even four skills together. Teaching a language can be a difficult and complicated task as it requires persistence, wisdom and patience. Teaching adults, in particular, can be even more complicated as shown in this research which handles issues of whether adult learners have serious difficulties that slow their progress in language acquisition. It also pointed out that adult learners’ coping with the interactive classroom activities and the teaching style they prefer. The study used a questionnaire to survey the opinions of adult students of English. The study revealed that adult learners of English differ greatly in their perception of teaching style, the way mistakes are handled in the classroom, cooperating with partners on activities, self-dependence matters and learning vocabulary and grammar. For example, some students prefer to know the meaning of every word that is said in the class, while others concentrate on the overall meaning. The results of the study displayed that students differ in the extent to which they use their mother tongue to facilitate their learning. In general, adult learners of English seem to have difficulty in acquiring language with techniques that would very much suit younger learners. That is why this study suggests a remedial method that offers some insights in dealing with adult learners. We believe that teachers should be equipped with the best teaching materials and methods in order to deal with adult learners. Teaching English to adults is not merely a job but rather an art that teachers need to master. Download 55.61 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
