It is generally believed that charity means providing financial assistance to the needy. However, this is only partially true. The word charity comes from the Latin word, caritas which means love. Therefore, philanthropy does not just mean begging. It also refers to offering any kind of help and giving love and care to the needy. This means that one does not have to be financially prosperous to do charitable work. Each of us can help the needy in their lives so that they can fill the void in their lives. For example, bring a smile to their face to go to orphanages or old age homes and spend time with them. Can. However, someone who disregards their parents and spends time in old age homes does not do commendable work. He should first give time to his parents and other family members and then go out and help others. The phrase, ‘charity begins at home’ is a lesson each of us must imbibe. It emphasizes the fact that to help others and to make this society a better place to live, we must first work on ourselves and meet the needs of those close to us. However, it should not end there. Once these basic responsibilities are fulfilled, we should go out and help the needy.
