Therefore, CLIL providesa practical approach to both content and languagelearning that improves intercultural understandingAdvantages of CLILThe important advantage of CLIL is its potentialfor achieving bilingualism and improving interculturalunderstanding.Firstly, CLIL helps to broadenintercultural knowledge and understanding and developsintercultural communication skills.Secondly, CLIL improves target language competence and raises awareness ofboth mother tongue and target language.Thirdly, CLIL provides opportunities tostudy content and learn subject-specific terminologyand hence prepare students for future studies and/orworking life.Finally, CLIL offers new learningstrategies while adding diversity and flexibility toexisting methods and forms of classroom practiceIMPLEMENTATION OF CLILThe implementation of CLIL is based on fourmain principles. These are cognition, community,communication, and culture. The four guiding principlesmeans that the learner works with an interfacein which cognition (the thinking skills and problem solvingapproaches specific to that particular topic),community (the development of the self-awareness ofthe learner with respect to the content, him/herself asa learner, and the purpose of learning in the wider environmentDownload 0.54 Mb.
