Activity 13: Choosing a Textbook Activity to Extend

  1. Divide Mentees into groups of 3 – the same groups that worked together yesterday developing a lesson plan.

  2. Groups choose 1 textbook activity from yesterday’s lesson plan to adapt or extend and fill in the graphic organizer.

  3. Groups use the graphic organizer to create a poster showing their activity and the changes they made.

  4. Stay & Stray

    1. Groups choose 1 Mentee to be the Stayer and 2 Mentees to be Strayers.

    2. Stayers stay at their tables and explain their ideas.

    3. Strayers rotate clockwise around the room to visit the Stayers. Give Strayers 3 minutes with each Stayer before asking them to rotate.

    4. Strayers take notes about the other groups’ activities.

    5. After the Strayers have visited all the groups, they return to their Stayer and tell the Stayer about the other groups’ ideas.

  5. The group discusses ways to modify their activity based on what the Stayers and Strayers learned.

  6. Group revises the lesson plan activity.
