2.2.3.2 Stock of China's direct investment in Central Asian countries


China's investment stock in Kazakhstan accounts for the largest proportion of China's total investment stock in Central Asia. It can be seen from Figure 2 that China's direct investment stock in Kazakhstan has increased rapidly since 2016, while the growth trend of China's investment stock in the other four countries is basically the same. Among them, the investment stock in Kyrgyzstan reached US $984 million in 2019, accounting for 9.6% of China's investment in the five Central Asian countries that year.

2.3 Industrial distribution of China's direct investment in Central Asian countries

2.3.1 Industry distribution of China's investment in Kazakhstan


China's direct investment in Kazakhstan is mainly in oil exploration and development, as well as equity acquisition and gas station network operation of Kazakhstan oil company. In addition, there are agricultural and sideline products processing, telecommunications, electricity, accommodation and catering, and trade leather processing. At present, China's investment projects in Kazakhstan include: China Kazakhstan oil pipeline project, ad m project, mangerstau project, PK project, aktobin project, Ka m project, China Kazakhstan uranium mining project, North Buzachi project, rutniki hydropower station project and Aktau asphalt plant project. By the end of 2018, more than 2800 Chinese funded enterprises had been registered in Kazakhstan, ranking the third in the total number of foreign enterprises in Kazakhstan.

2.3.2 Industry distribution of China's investment in Kyrgyzstan


At present, there are about 260 Chinese funded enterprises registered in Kyrgyzstan, and their investment industries are widely distributed, including mineral resources exploration and development, crop planting, metal smelting, trade, communication services, animal breeding, food and agricultural product processing, transportation, tourism, entertainment, building materials production, project contracting, real estate development, catering, light industry, construction and other industries. In 2021, the Bishkek thermal power station project with a total amount of 386 million US dollars undertaken by China TBEA Co., Ltd. was successfully signed; The agreement on the "north south highway" restoration project undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation was also signed successfully. ⑦ this marks a major breakthrough in the cooperation between the two countries in the non resource field.
