1.2.MAJOR THEMES IN POSTMODERNISM

Especially, short-stories include deep theme which is relevent to the modern society. And therefore five short-stories : “Was it A Dream?”, “On the Sidewalk Bleeding”, “Kath and Mouse”, “G.Trueheart” and “Thank you Ma’am” are brought forward in a weel-organised manner in order that the reader is given an honest message.[ www.studblog.net ] Each story includes an honest message, a setting and has used good characters. Of the characters within the five short stories are built up by the authors with excellent characterization although some characters have variety of weaknesses. Firstly, the 2 characters within the story “Was it A Dream?” are made up with excellent characterization. Guy de Maupassant has given life to the characters and therefore the reader is given a romantic feeling by the boy’s actions and with the words written on the tombstone of his fiancée-“She loved, was loved, and died.” Secondly, the two characters- lady, Roger within the story “Thank you ma’am”, are good attributable to the entertainment reader can gain. Thirdly, the characters Kath and Mouse and also the narrator are the three main characters within the story “Kath and Mouse”. The characters-Kath and Mouse are outstanding due to the names given to it two characters. Next, the most two characters of the story “On the Sidewalk Bleeding”, Andy and Laura, are built up by the author with an honest effort, yet those characters have some weaknesses. The character of Andy is boring on account of the very fact that Andy’s story is woven in just around one place- a sidewalk. Lastly, the dog and Tom within the story “G.Trueheart, Man’s best Friend” are unimaginative thanks to the actions of, specially, the dog. it's said that the dog, instead of a dog, sounds like a hippopotamus. Finally, when considering the above facts, i prefer the characters of the story, “Was it A Dream? ” most as a result of the wonderful characterization of the 2 characters. aside from the characters, the themes of the five short stories are splendid too. Most of them provides a clear theme which is applicable to the trendy society while some don't. At first, the theme of the story, “Was it A Dream?” is betrayal of affection. The lover within the story was thinking that his fiancée loved him significantly until he saw what she has written on her tombstone “having gone get into the rain at some point in some unspecified time in the future so as to deceive her lover, she caught cold and died.”And secondly the theme ‘forgiving’ of the story “Thank you ma’am” is additionally superlative. within the modern times, forgiving has become only a mere word which is restricted to writings. So, in such a circumstance, the theme conveyed within the story is profound. It teaches the fashionable man to forgive each other. Thirdly, the theme revealed by, the story “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” is that to not join gangs. With the instance of Andy the reader is shown the destruction happen to gang members. Next, the message given to the reader by the story “Kath and Mouse” isn't to undertake to dominate others. within the story, Kath tries to rule the college but at the tip, she is humiliated. So, of the themes of the short stories, “Was it a Dream?” is that the best because it conveys a subject matter associated with the fashionable society. additionally to the themes of the stories, settings are too interesting and captivating.
