INTRODUCTION
As Uzbekistan becomes more open, Uzbeks, especially university students, are embracing the United States and the rest of the Western world. The most effective and beneficial way young Uzbeks are welcoming and engaging with these new relationships is through the English language.Many young Uzbeks strive to master the English language. For many, the English language is a break from the past and represents a new future.For many female students I spoke with they view the English language as a way to gain a professional career in translation or further their higher education pursuits.
The subject matter is to overview theoretical basis of teaching language and its development, to analyze the existent problems in teaching writing skills and find the ways out of this problem by suggesting a series of exercises that can be useful in classroom activities.
Thus, according to the set aim we are to solve the following tasks:
- to determine the aim and nature of teaching language ;
- to describe the method in teaching language and writing skills;
- material design for teaching writing skills at school
The aim of the course paper is reflected by different interactive teaching language and writing methods, schools’ programs and essential instructions for teaching pupils to write
The structure of the course paper consists of introduction, main body and conclusion which are followed by the literature used in the course of research.
1. Main features of teaching writing to A2 level students
The development of second language skills among the students has always been an interesting task. The process of writing suggests that the students are actually taught how to write with coherence, acceptable spellings, and appropriate grammar structure in second language . The strategies for classroom refers to the second language learning sense, which has been introduced to the complex shifts made by second language speakers. These strategies can be different in nature, which include cognitive learning strategies and metacognitive learning strategies . Students need to personally get involved in writing exercises to make the learning experience valuable. In the second language learning classrooms student motivation is enhanced by explaining them the steps involved in effective writing. The writing activities need to be geared according to the needs and interests of the students. Moreover, these activities should be linked to the real life whenever possible.
Studying English has tangible benefits, which Uzbeks are already using to make a profit. Uzbeks take education seriously, with many vying for master’s and doctorate degrees. For many students, both inside the capital and also in the regions, studying the English language is a step in this goal to attain advanced degrees in the United States and Europe. Before, learning outside Uzbekistan was reserved for elites, but now that many universities are offering English language courses, Uzbek students from all economic backgrounds desire to study abroad in English-speaking countries. One advantage of the desire to learn English for Western countries is that by learning English, Uzbek students will have the opportunity to study in Western countries, later returning to Uzbekistan and bringing with them Western ideas. This will further the development of their country and continue to achieve more “open” policies.
According to the decree foreign languages, mainly English, gradually throughout the country will be taught from the first year of schooling in the form of lesson-games and speaking games, continuing to learning the alphabet, reading and spelling in the second year. Also it is envisaged that university modules, especially in technical and international areas, will be offered in English and other foreign languages at higher education institutions. In order to increase teaching standarts in distant rural areas, the higher educational institutions are allowed targeted admission of people living in distant areas to foreign language programs on the condition that they will oblige themselves to work in the acquired specialty at their residence area for at least 5 years after graduation.
Nevertheless, this policy has shown its positive impact on the quality of educational staff and has become the main criterion of employment in the country, not only in education but in other spheres as well. This approach helped the Uzbek to understand what level must be acquired to meet the requirements of modern standards. The main reason for the reforms are the international role of the English language, which has evolved into a ‘code’ of communication in various spheres, and globalization, which has opened many new ways for nations to come closer. In addition, another reason based on the analysis of the current system of organizing language learning shows that learning standards, curricula and textbooks do not fully meet the current requirements, particularly in the use of advanced information and media technologies. Education is mainly conducted in traditional methods. Further development of a continuum of foreign languages learning at all levels of education; improving skills of teachers and provision of modern teaching materials are required. New approaches in the system of education also influenced on the learning and teaching of foreign languages, as language is the major factor of person’s development. The National Teleradio Company, State Committee for communications, information and telecommunication technologies, Agency for Press and Information of the Republic of Uzbekistan are tasked to prepare and broadcast language-learning programs, significantly increase access to international educational resources and educational network, promote publication of foreign language textbooks, magazines and other materials. And regular training programs shown in the mass media are giving positive results not only in acquisition of knowledge and skills, but also in motivating Uzbek children to foreign language learning. The main concentration has become to change the language learning from the traditional Soviet approach of grammar-translation, which was a usual method of teaching English for many years, into a communicative method, practiced worldwide. Not only specialists in the language but also the lawyers and other professions are required to master English at B2 level at the least. Due to the most of the world’s popular literatures are in English and the language important in professional improvement. Regardless the nature and type of the occupation, it is virtually impossible to grow professionally without knowledge of English. In view of educational reforms and high demand for English together with International practices in different spheres, the idea of introduction of education with English of medium of instruction started to seem feasible to the government.
At present, educational establishments with English as a medium of instruction have become the most preferred institutions to study at. To meet the demand for the desire of people to be educated in English, the number of english institutions has been increasing from year to year. These reforms have undoubtedly been aimed at integration with the Western World and acquiring information access as well as ability to keep up with the pace of changes taking place in the world. Looking back, now it becomes clear that the Uzbek government started the process of bringing the National Language closer to English “to enter the world community” and communicate effectively and effortlessly on an international level when it decided to convert the Uzbek alphabet from Cyrillic to Latin .In teaching foreign languages the most important of all, is to develop communication and interaction skills of learners.
Teaching vocabulary and structures are on the very important stage for it. Furthermore, if only people, these are thought, communication won’t be inadequate. Learners may know the rulers and many words but they will be unable to use these in their speech. They say, reading, writing is developed by writing, as well we can improve our English learners’ communicative and interactive skills only by more speaking and communicating. Writing as a skill: by far the most important reason for teaching writing, of course, is that it is a basic language skill, just as important as speaking, listening and treading. Students need to know how to write letters, how to put written reports together, how to reply to advertisements - and increasingly, how to write using electronic media They need to know some of the writing's special conventions just as they need to know how to pronounce spoken English appropriately. Part of our job is to give them that skill. It can give the teacher a break, quieten down a noisy class, change the mood and pace of a lesson. Role of process in the teaching of writing , students need to take their compositions through several drafts and receive feedback from their teachers and from other students as they work to complete their writing assignments. Thus, helping students develop a productive writing process is at the heart of the new writing curriculum.
