Classification of phraseological units by their expressive-stylistic qualities
Being part of the vocabulary, phraseological units with names of animals form several stylistic seams. From the stylistic point of view (i.e. depending on the primarily using in one of the spheres) they are divided into bookish, spoken and vernacular phraseological units. The author of this classification is Cunin. Bookish phraseological units with names of animals are less than spoken phraseological units, they are usually taken from the biblical plots and antique mythology, e.g. lost sheep, swan’s song, golden half, blue bird. Such phraseological units are usually neutral from the emotional point of view. Spoken phraseological units – are stable combination of words that are primarily used only in the spoken language. Spoken-household phraseological units are differ from mistletoe phraseological units by more narrow sphere of using and low expressive-stylistic characteristics (affectionately, ironic, scornful, humorous, familiar and etc.) E.g. To tease a goose, to make an elephant from the fly; flies are dying; clerical rat. Vernacular phraseolgical units with names of animals have lower stylistic character than spoken phraseological units, e.g. as a saddle on the cow; where cancers live in the winter; as a pig in the oranges and so on. This group of phraseological units is characterized with strong emotional features; in a lot of cases they have negative character, e.g. goose gripping – “cunning, dexterous person” to twirl ox – “to fence with a question”. CONCLUSION Human language reflects and represents a certain area of the real world not only with the single words or word meanings, but also with the whole system of language in general, i.e. interaction of its various levels. The present day any language cannot be considered full of value without idiomatic usage, as the use of phraseological units is the first sign of a certain language developing. Idiomatic sentences enrich vocabulary as well as the correct acquisition of them signals that the speaker knows the language on the level of a native speaker. Phraseological units as mavericks of the linguistic world pose a challenge to our understanding of grammar and lexis that has not yet been fully met. They are commonly believed to be qualitatively different from 'normal' language, but the precise nature of this difference can be elusive. Phraseological units as a special form of language carried a large amount of cultural information. There are closely related to culture. They are the heritage of history and the product of cultural evolvement. In order to communicate with foreigners frequently, the ability of understand phraseological units are also important. Being an inseparable part of the language, phraseological units have a special position within it. Idiomatic expressions do follow grammatical, syntactical and morphological rules. However, they can occasionally deviate from these rules. Phraseological units also exploit the possibilities of the language allowing for the processes of derivation and conversion. The latter feature is closely connected with the flexibility of idiomatic expressions. They cover different registers and include a stylistically wide range of vocabulary. Originating from a variety of sources, they greatly enrich the language. There is a tendency towards creativity in idiomatic expressions. As playful expressions in themselves, phraseological units have tremendous potential for creative adaptation. In many instances, theys can be compared to words, which also enter into synonymous, antonymous, and homonymous relations, and can be combined into semantic fields and families. In general, idiomatic expressions are very versatile. This is the main reason for numerous difficulties with defining precise boundaries of phraseological units. Yet it is also what makes them so engaging.
