Les Pronoms Sujet
A subject is the person or thing doing the action of the verb. Subject
pronouns take the place of nouns to fulfill this function. It is imperative to
learn this kind as it is necessary when conjugating verbs.
Examples:
La voiture ne veut pas demarrer.
Elle ne veut pas démarrer.
The car won’t start. It won’t start.
Marie travail
Elle travail
Marie is working.
She is working.
Le Pronoms Objet Direct
A direct object receives the action of the verb. It is easy to determine as it
answers the question who or what. Direct object pronouns replace the
nouns so that the latter doesn’t need to be repeated. See the example
conversation below:
Example:
Marie: Tu vois le jardin? (Did you see the garden?)
Ben: Oui, je le vois. (Yes, I saw it.)
In the dialogue above, we see that “le jardin” (garden) was replaced by “le”
in the response.
