TASK 2 – Poverty and Income Inequality
|
The situation in Uzbekistan deserved special attention because clear warnings that rising poverty and inequality could lead to violence went unheeded, resulting in the current situation. Uzbekistan has struggled to move away from a totalitarian system and centralized economy since 1991, with limited success. The review outlines a scenario of increasing poverty and inequality (relative to the Soviet era), which, when paired with a paralyzed political system, leaves little prospect for reform. This has increased social tension, to which the government has responded with increasingly repressive measures, prompting some people to resort to violence.
Over the last two decades. Income poverty has decreased from 23,5% in 2000 to 11.5% in 2020, lifting 2.2 million people out of poverty. This reduction, however, was not consistent in terms of inter-regional inequalities. In fact, regional disparities persist and grow wider year after year, and the urban-rural poverty gap remains large. When it comes to threats, Uzbekistan is no exception: the COVID-19 pandemic has reportedly pushed an additional 1 million people into poverty.
The New Uzbekistan Development Strategy sets a lofty goal of halving poverty by 2026 and achieving upper-middle-income status by 2030. And this has provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on how effective the government's efforts to implement poverty reduction programs, policies, and measures have been.
Turkey, which developing country, has had considerable income disparity, with a Gini index of 0.42 according to the Turkish Statistical Institute's Household Budget Survey of 2003. Turkey has the largest income difference between the richest 20% of the population and the poorest 20% of the population when compared to other European nations. According to the data provided by Eurostat, the wealthiest Turks earned 8.3 times more than the poorest Turks in 2019. According to EU averages, this discrepancy is five times larger. Turkey has a poverty risk of 39.8%, compared to the EU's average of 21.4%. The severity of the danger of poverty also suggests that if essential action is delayed, the rate of poverty would rise higher.
Despite the government's attempts to reduce poverty brought on by the pandemic, more may be done to mitigate the excessive impact of COVID-19 on poverty in Turkey. Turkey's entire relief efforts have come to less than 1% of its projected GDP in 2020, whereas those of comparable nations have reached up to 9% of their respective GDPs.

TASK 4 –Economic Integration
|
The structural adjustments and economic reforms launched by the Uzbek administration in 2017 are clearly altering the economy. However, infrastructure development, increased access to global and regional markets, and a favorable institutional environment remain priorities for the country. cooperation with countries near and far abroad has reached a new level, and even a close conversation has been formed. The New Uzbekistan is developing a policy of close international collaboration, including commerce with China, Turkey, the United States, and others.
The nation participates in the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer. Additionally, there are possibilities for Uzbekistan to become a full member of this union. The Agency for Development of Germany (GTAI) noted in an article that having observer status permits it to attend meetings of the organization's bodies and keep adjusting to the EAEU market. According to EDB analysts, the EAEU could invest $1 to $1.5 billion in Uzbekistan's infrastructure. As a result, real GDP growth would rise by 0.3 to 0.4 percentage points. Uzbekistan is a desirable location for FDI and business for the current EAEU member states, according to bank experts. Companies from EAEU countries are eager to deepen their commercial ties with local businesses.
The Customs Union and other agreements with the EU, Turkey has 22 Free Trade Agreements in force with: EFTA countries, Israel, Singapore, Kosovo, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Palestine*, Albania, Georgia, Tunisia, Malaysia, Moldova, Morocco, Egypt, Syria (suspended), Montenegro, Serbia, Chile, Mauritius, Faroe Islands, Venezuela and South Korea.
Turkey has always been a country of strategic importance due to its geographic role as a link between East and West, its long and unique history of relations with the European Union (EU), and the specific path the Republic of Turkey took towards modernization following its founding in 1923. These factors have attracted the attention of both historians and political scientists. More recently, a number of developing nations, particularly but not exclusively in the Muslim world, have turned to Turkey's economic success as an example. Turkey has great trade relations with EU based on an Association Agreement from 1963 and a Customs Union agreement which began forcing on 31 December 1995. Since 1999, Turkey has been a prospective member of the European Union. Although they began in 2005, the accession talks have not moved forward recently. Turkey has stated as a member of the Union for the Mediterranean.
In conclusion, rather than higher level of integration, free trading has more advantages for developing countries. It has great performance for lowering prices and establishing new business which cause more working places.
