Data Management Operational Application Systems

Data Management Operational Application Systems

Course Description
The aim of this course is to familiarize the student with the problems connected to the operational management of production systems, with particular reference to manufacturing environments, and to the main operational methods used in this context. An introduction to the management problems is the understanding of the functioning of the production system with particular attention to the definition of KPIs and to the evaluation of performance. Having described the system from the point of view of performance measures and their main drivers, the production management problems, supply chain management are addressed with specific reference to the most common logics in the business environment at the medium and short-term planning level.
Prerequisite
Elements of statistics (concept of probability distribution, concepts of mean and variance, and distribution of fundamental probabilities such as Normal, Uniform, Exponential). Elements of mathematical analysis (solution of systems of equations, computation of derivatives and integrals, analysis of functions).
Course Structure
The course includes lectures and classroom exercises. During the lessons, all the topics of the course will be presented both from a theoretical point of view, illustrating the techniques and management tools, and from a practical point of view, applying the tools to examples of business problems and case studies. The exercises, on the other hand, will consist in the performance of numerical exercises and the discussion of business cases. There are also workshops dedicated to particular aspects of production management, applied in realistic contexts of a typical manufacturing company.
Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students must have understood the management tools covered by the course and be able to instantiate and use the formulas and any software in the correct way.

  • student will have to demonstrate that knows how to apply the theory and methods learned in the most appropriate way in reference to the specific field.

  • given a system of real complexity, described in a contingent operating condition, the student must be able to recognize which problem is affecting the system and identify possible operational solutions, that is, select the most appropriate approach and / or method. adequate for the solution of the identified problem, also identifying the necessary data / parameters and their possible retrieval within the company.
