DAY 2 WORDLIST
Resident (noun) - a person who lives or has their home in a place:
a resident of the UK/Australia
The local residents were angry at the lack of parking spaces.
The hotel bar was only open to residents (= to people staying at the hotel).
Virtually (adverb) - almost
Their twins are virtually identical.
That wine stain on my shirt has virtually disappeared.
Range (verb) - to have an upper and a lower limit in amount, number, etc.:
Dress sizes range from petite to extra large.
Prices range between $50 and $250.
Firsthand (adverb) - If you experience something firsthand, you experience it yourself:
Most of the older reporters have experienced war firsthand.
Wilderness (noun) - an area of land that has not been used to grow crops or had towns and roads built on it, especially because it is difficult to live in as a result of its extremely cold or hot weather or bad earth:
a beautiful mountain wilderness
Alaska is the last great wilderness.
Sensational (adjective) - Sensational news reports and articles are intended to be shocking and exciting rather than serious:
Some of the more sensational newspapers have given a lot of coverage to the scandal.
Meanwhile (adverb) - until something expected happens, or while something else is happening
It’s going to take several days for my car to be repaired – meanwhile I’m renting one.
Unspoiled (adjective)- An unspoiled place is beautiful because it has not been changed or damaged by people:
an island with clean, unspoiled beaches
concerned (adjective) - involved or involving:
They say that free trade will benefit all concerned.
Her job is only concerned with costs and fees.
come together - to start working successfully with each other:
I remember how the community came together and were so supportive of each other.
