DEVELOPING A1 LEVEL LEARNER`S GRAMMATICAL COMPETENCE THROUGH GAMES
Practical value of the work: Development of grammar competence of A1 level students through games and the advantages and disadvantages of using games, thinking about game technologies as an effective means of activating the learning process in a foreign language class.
The tasks of the work: Making clear conclusions about the use of the game method in teaching students to speak, grammatical style and the development of students' grammatical competence. Analysis of grammatical competence and determining the place of students in developing their speech. Game can be described as a play which is governed by a set of rules. Games bring certain kind of experience and for that reason information is easier to remember. Some authors describe that games bring a meaningful communication to the lessons. Moreover, they can focus on all the four basic skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening) and they can be used for learners of any age. The games are often used at the beginning of the lesson as a “warm-up” activity or at the end of the lesson when there’s time to left. On the other hand, Uberman (1998, online) claims that it is right to use the game at any stage of the lesson. Also Betteridge, Buckby and Wright (1983, p. I) indicate that the stage of the teaching sequence is not deciding factor for the choice of the game. Knowledge of grammar is important in practical acquisition of the language. Grammar of a language consists of a set of grammatical tools, with the help of which words, phrases and sentences are formed in this language. M.Gapporov's book "English Grammar" provides general information about grammar, rules and examples for its practical use with Uzbek translation. The information in it is written in clear and understandable language, this book is adapted for B1 level. Games can also be used by teachers in a wide variety of scenarios. They are equally powerful at the beginning of a lesson to set the scene, during class to deliver a key learning objective or at the end of a lesson if you’ve some spare time to fill. Importantly, games can also be used to develop a wide variety of language skills – to practise test new vocabulary or grammar points in groups or pairs, as a prompt for writing work or as a speaking exercise as players try to convince / persuade their classmates. Whatever game you’re planning to play, it’s essential to explain the rationale of the game to the students in the class. Ensure that all students are aware of the learning benefits of the activity – without this step, students can mistakenly assume that you’re just wasting time by adding a fun element to the lesson. It’s worth noting that games (like all learning activities) don’t automatically appeal to all language learners. Learners who are struggling with their studies already will be concerned about further exposing themselves to criticism. Equally, it’s important to maintain a balance – too many games and students begin to wonder what learning is actually going on! Finally if you’re looking for inspiration on the games to play in your classroom then there’s some great ideas to try out here and here. Download 41.11 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
