Abstract
In this article, the author describes her experiences as a basic educator for BhW Lower 
Austria during the lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Her reports and reflections are guided by 
the question of how to continue teaching basic education courses inclusively despite 
contact restrictions. It appears that both learners and instructors faced a variety of 
challenges due to social distancing measures. Adult basic education learners are not 
always sufficiently equipped with technology, social support, learning skills or digital 
literacy. The shift to online education is not feasible for everyone without additional 
effort. For instructors, this means that individualized strategies and approaches are 
needed to reach each learner. With great efforts in terms of time and content, learning 
materials were adapted and digitized, courses were modified and individualized and 
learners were also supported in an individualized setting. In the best case, this means an 
increase in digital literacy for everyone involved in the learning process. The author 
concludes from her experiences that the orientation to individual learning level and 
prerequisites is a proven didactic principle. (Ed.)
