   Keep dignity in soccer debate
   

WHILE I respect the right of Mr. Thomas (Letters, Now 21) to make his views felt about football pitches at Sandy mere, Northman, there are inaccuracies in his letter.
His “guesstimates” at financial outlay were wildly inaccurate. The football club has spent considerably less than the costs he quotes.
I am saddened when he states the project is led by businessmen, implying a commercial venture. The decision to aim at extending facilities for local youngsters was taken at the well-attended annual meeting of the club. It was voted for unanimously.
Money spent on the project has not come out of membership fees; these cover running costs. Any outlay towards Sandy mere has been through a committee established for the sole purpose of raising funds for it.
Make your views felt, by all means, but at least have the decency to back them up with honest facts rather than exaggerations, financial mistruths and innuendo.
At all times throughout these procedures the officers and committee of the club have behaved with dignity and no matter what the outcome of the planning meeting this will continue to be the case.

   ‘Mature’ folk cause trouble, too
   

REFERRING to comments (Journal, Nov 14) about plans to open the nightclub in Lower Gun stone, I can sympathize with the elderly residents in the New Street flats, but it is not only the elderly that will be affected should the plans for plans for the club go ahead.
My fiancé and I are in our early 30s, live in Lower Gun stone and have witnessed men urinating and people vomiting outside our house. This, coupled with shouting and screaming into the early hours, can make a night’s sleep impossible at the weekend. Also like the residents of New Street, we too have had our car and house vandalized on several occasions.
I had only just read that Mrs. Linda Rocky was going to have strictly over 21 year-olds, and I quote “so there won’t be any teeny- boppers and you’ll get a mature kind of person”, when I heard smashing of glass. Looking out of my window I saw a group of men aged between 25-30 kicking a traffic come down the road. Is this the kind of “mature” person Mrs. Rocky is referring to!!!!
