Email: Kalim.raza1992@gmail.com Whatsapp:+998 91 550 44 40 Website:www.chinarmed.com By Dr. Kalim Raza High Yield Notes On Popliteal Fossa And Its Contents 1) The popliteal fossa is diamond shape depression just behind the knee joint. 2) The superior lateral border is formed by the biceps Femoris muscle. 3) The superior medial border is formed by semimembranosus and semitendinosus. 4) The inferior lateral border is formed by the lateral head of the gastrocanemous muscle and planterus muscle. 5) The inferior medial border is formed by the medial head of the gastrocanemous. 6) Structures in fossa, deepest popliteal artery, then popliteal vein, then tibial and common peroneal nerves. 7) Popliteal veins and femoral veins are common sites for DVT. 8) The great saphenous is the longest vein of the human body and is used in CABG surgery and in case of emergency blood transfusion.
