The system of Higher education in the USA
Higher education in the USA provides foreign students with a wide range of disciplines within a particular specialization. The system is represented by educational institutions of 4 categories:

  There are universities in the country that include several faculties or colleges that graduate bachelors, masters and doctors.

  Also for foreign students, educational programs at colleges are available. Here the education lasts for 4 years, as well as at the Bachelor's degree.

  Technical schools offer a wide range of programs. The duration of the education is from six months to four years.

  Municipal colleges in the country graduate qualified workers. After 2 years of education, students can go to the classical college for a 4-year educational program.

The academic year in the US is like in other countries, with the only difference that its duration and division into parts may differ in different educational institutions. Usually in the USA the academic year begins at the end of August / beginning of September, and ends at the end of May / beginning of June. The academic year in America consists of 3 parts (trimesters) or even 4 (quarters).
The system of assessing the success of students is also different: to successfully complete an educational course or obtain a diploma, each student must gain a certain number of educational points (credits). It is noteworthy that each university sets the credit standards completely independently – there are no exact and uniform rules on this topic. All works are evaluated on a letter scale (from A to E, where A is the highest score) and then generally translated into GPA points (Grade Point Average), which is already displayed as a number. GPA is the average score for a subject, so employers, as well as the graduate school admissions committee, often focus on this indicator when considering a candidate's application. For the same reason, the overwhelming number of students strive to ensure that their GPA is above average.
