5 main kinds of preparatory programs in the USA
There are more than 4,000 institutions for higher education in the United States. Higher education institutions are divided into colleges and universities. US universities, as well as US colleges, provide high-quality education. Universities offer modern laboratories and ample opportunities for practicing different kinds of sports. Student campuses of universities can consist of residences of all kinds, and students can choose the most suitable one for them. Studying at an American college often involves obtaining only a Bachelor's degree (which implies 4 years of study), while at the university the student can continue studying and get a Master's degree or even finish higher Doctorate studies and obtain a Ph.D. Foreign students can enter an American university and graduate in the US in several ways: Pass the pre-university program after school; Transfer from a home country university to a lower course at a university in the United States; Enroll in a Master's degree program or Higher Doctorate studies after graduating from a university in the home country. All these possible ways of studying in America provide different courses and include a variety of requirements. There are their own rules and a unique list of necessary documents for each category of students. The adequate selection of the program will help foreign prospective students to save both time and money. Higher education institutions are divided into private and public: Public universities are usually much larger – thousands of international students can study at the same time. Tuition fees at public universities are lower than private ones, and for residents of the “home” state, studying can be completely free: the state fully finances the university and largely oversees its educational programs. Among the best public universities in the country, it is worth noting: The University of Michigan; The University of California at Berkeley. Private universities are usually smaller in size, but they usually have more developed infrastructure, offer wider opportunities for scientific research, sports and creative activities, etc. Average tuition fees at private universities are from 30 to 60 thousand dollars per academic year. Tuition fee excludes accommodation and additional expenses. Almost all universities of the legendary Ivy League are private: Princeton; Harvard; Stanforth; California University of Technology (Caltech). Download 0.63 Mb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
