Conclusion
In a conclusion, the Renaissance radically changed the genre structure of English literature. It created a new system of literary genres, reestablished and humanistly reconstructed their forms that had been known since ancient times, while others were recreated. The biggest changes have affected the field of drama. The Renaissance revived the genres of tragedy and comedy, which had disappeared during the Roman Empire, instead of medieval genres. Compared to the Middle Ages, the plot of the works has changed first mythological, then historical and modern.
In the literature of the Renaissance, the epic is presented in vivid forms. It should be noted that, first of all, the spread of the epic, the medieval knightly novel takes on a new life, adding a new meaning to it.
At the end of the Renaissance, the novel Pikaresk was founded. The true work of the Renaissance is the genre of short stories, the typological foundations of which were laid by Boccaccio. Dialogue has become a genre of Renaissance.
Renaissance poetry was also associated with the emergence and revival of a number of genres. It is distinguished by the predominance of lyricism. Poems and anthems have been revived from the ancient genres of epic poetry, and lyric poetry is associated with the emergence, development and perfection of the sonnet, which has become the leading form of lyricism. During this period, the epigram, elegy, and to some extent the ballad also develop.
The great figures of English culture and literature raised the ideals of humanism and defended the interests of the working people in their works. They took advantage of the achievements of ancient Greek and Roman culture and literature to establish their living traditions.
English humanism, which had been developing since the late XIV century, had reached its peak in the XVI and early XVII centuries.
During the Renaissance, English folklore rose to new heights, with numerous ballads and folk tales about Robin Hood, who defended the oppressed against a single tyrannical feudal lord. In the image of the invincible Robin Hood, the people expressed their hatred of feudal wars, additional taxes, and the oppression of the rich.
To summarize, the Renaissance was a period in which the most remarkable and rare works and genres of English literature were created.
