WE USE:

• For plans and intentions we have for the near future :

F/e : Susan is going to travel around of world.

• For Predictions based on what we see or know:

F/e: Look at him. He’s going to jump out of the train

FORM:

• We form the AFFIRMATIVE;

S+to be( am, is, are) +going to + The base form of the Verb.

He is going to go to travel.

• We form the INTERROGATIVE:

To be + S + going to + The base form of the Verb

Is he going to go to travel?

• We form the NEGATIVE:

S + to be+ not + going to + The base form of the Verb

He is not going to go to travel.

Short Answers:

• Yes, I am/ You are / He is
• No, I am not/ You are not/ He is not

Compare Future Simple/ Be going to/ Present Continuous

• She will sell her bicycle. ( she may or may not sell it ) 70%
• He is going to study medicine next year. ( Intention )  50%
• They are leaving for New York tomorrow. ( Fixed arrangement in the near future) 100%
