Powers of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan

• Considers materials of generalization of judicial practice and gives explanations on questions of application of the legislation;
• Approves the composition of the Scientific Advisory Board under the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the recommendation of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Approves the composition of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the composition of judicial boards, as well as the Secretary of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the proposals of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Hears information on the work of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as reports on the activities of judicial boards;
• Hears reports of the chairmen of the courts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city courts, the Military Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the practice of application of the legislation, as well as on the explanations of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan approves the composition of the editorial board of the press body;
• Approves the regulations of the Plenum and the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Exercise other powers in accordance with the law.

The procedure for the election and appointment of judges

• The Chairman, Deputy Chairmen and Judges of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be elected by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the recommendation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• Chairmen and deputy chairmen of regional and Tashkent city courts, chairman of the Military Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be appointed and dismissed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the recommendation of the Supreme Council of Judges of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• Chairmen and deputy chairmen of the courts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan shall be elected by the Jogorku Kenesh of the Republic of Karakalpakstan on the recommendation of the Chairman of the Jo’qorg’i Kengesi of the Republic of Karakalpakstan based on the conclusion of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• Judges of the courts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, chairmen and judges of inter-district, district (city) courts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan shall be appointed by the Jo’qorg’i Kengesi of the Republic of Karakalpakstan on the recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• Judges of military courts, regional and Tashkent city courts, chairmen and judges of inter-district, district (city) courts shall be appointed and dismissed by the Supreme Council of Judges of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
