CHAPTER TWO. TEACHING READING ON THE TOPIC " EVALUATING OPTIONS " FOR INDERMEDIATE PUPILS
2.1. LESSON PLAN ON THE TOPIC " EVALUATING OPTIONS " FOR INDERMEDIATE PUPILS Lesson: Title: Evaluating Options Grade Level: pre-intermediate (4th-6th) Objective: Students will learn how to evaluate options and make a decision based on criteria. Materials: - Whiteboard and markers - Handout of different options (e.g. types of pizza, vacation destinations, sports equipment) - Criteria handout (e.g. budget, location, preference, availability) - Scissors and glue sticks - Construction paper Procedure: Introduction: 1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever had to make a difficult decision with many options. 2. Ask them how they decided which option to choose. 3. Introduce the concept of evaluating options and explain that it is an important skill to have in life. Activity 1: Identifying Criteria 1. Display the criteria handout on the whiteboard and explain each one. 2. Have students work in pairs or small groups to brainstorm other criteria that might be important when making a decision. 3. Share the criteria with the class and discuss why each one might be important. Activity 2: Evaluating Options 1. Distribute the handout of different options to each student. 2. Have students cut out the options and glue them onto construction paper. 3. In their groups, have students evaluate each option based on the criteria discussed in Activity 1. 4. Have them rank the options from best to worst based on their evaluation. Conclusion: 1. Have groups share their rankings with the class and explain their reasoning. 2. Discuss the importance of evaluating options and making informed decisions. 3. Encourage students to use this skill in their daily lives.
