In Bangladesh, the main sources of renewable energy are solar energy, hydro energy and wind
energy. Of these, 60% of total renewable energy comes from hydro energy alone. Similarly, for
solar this number is 39.5% and for wind energy it is about 0.5%. Hence, it can be seen that the hydro
energy is the main source of renewable energy in Bangladesh. However, the solar energy is now the
fastest growing energy sector in Bangladesh and huge projects are undertaken to install solar panels
both in urban, rural and remote areas of Bangladesh [7]. Figure 2 depicts the entire renewable
energy sources and technologies. [6].
