th ro u g h th e use of s m a rtp h o n e s and la ptop s, so w h e re v e r w e are w e have access to a lm o s t

are d isa d va n ta g e s. F irs t of a ll, so m e pe op le be lie ve e v e ry th in g the y read o n lin e , w h ic h is 
d a n g e ro u s . Then, m an y people spend to o m u c h tim e s ittin g in fro n t of th e ir c o m p u te rs
r a th e r th a n go in g o u t and s o c ia lis in g , so th e y put on w e ig h t, th e y d o n 't develop and 
m a in ta in frie n d s h ip c irc le s . La st b u t not le a s t, it can c u t dead debate. W hen I'm in th e pub 
w ith m y frie n d s , we no lo n g e r have a frie n d ly , in fo r m a l deba te a b o u t w h ic h band has sold

to see th a t c o m m u n ity is n o t w h a t it w a s and th a t is la rg e ly due to te c h n o lo g ic a l 
d e v e lo p m e n ts . F or e x a m p le , b e fo re th e c a r m o s t p e o p le w a lk e d to w o rk . T h is m e a n t th a t 
th e y liv e d c lo s e to t h e ir p la ce o f w o rk , and so eve ryon e lived and w o rk e d in th e sam e

In m y view , people are scared because s c ie n tis ts seem to be a ll-p o w e rfu l. They com e up 
w ith som e new discovery a lm o s t every w e ek. T here see m s to be no end to it. So people are 
bound to qu e stio n w h e th e r it's rig h t o r not to delve so fa r in to n a tu re 's s e cre ts, m a n ip u la tin g
g e ne tic codes and so on. B ut the n m aybe pro gre ss is alw ays scary and th a t's w h a t keeps us 
in te re ste d . It is c h a lle n g in g and th o u g h t-p ro v o k in g .

I do if it's fo r th e pu rp o se s of c o s m e tic s and o th e r un n e ce ssa ry lu x u rie s . I'm not sure w h a t I 
th in k of te s tin g on a n im a ls fo r reasons of fin d in g cure s fo r hu m an illn e s s e s . B ut I th in k it's 
s o m e th in g I'd ra th e r not ta lk about, to be honest. I d o n 't fe e l c o m fo rta b le discussin g it.

N ot necessarily. A fte r a ll, s c ie n tis ts developed the a to m bom b and a ll the e ffic ie n t new ways 
w e have of k illin g each other. W hat m a tte rs is th a t w e keep on q u e s tio n in g s c ie n tis ts , le ttin g
th e m kn o w th a t we are g ra te fu l fo r th e ir discove ries but w ill not give th e m free rein. They 
need to keep m o ra lity in m in d w h en th e y 're w o rk in g .
