This lesson plan for teachers of teenagers and adults at intermediate level and above explores the theme of branding and brand names. Students will have an opportunity to read and discuss the context of a text and create and brand their own imaginary product. This is an integrated skills lesson which involves some discussion, various methods and approaches to teach effectively. It explores the area of 'brands' and the associations we have with particular brand names.
The lesson plan addresses to help students express opinions, likes and dislikes; to help students develop vocabulary though brainstorming and dictionary work; to help students develop speaking skills through making a short oral presentation.
The focus in the class is on conversation in order to help improve students’ fluency and confidence when speaking in English as well as boosting their vocabulary.
This lesson opens with a short discussion about the article the students read before the class. Next, the students can give their opinion on the quote at the beginning of the lesson plan – what they think the quote means, if they agree with it and how it could relate to business. This is followed by an initial discussion on the topic including the most famous brands in the world, how brands become famous, and why companies need a strong brand image.
This lesson plan for pre-intermediate level and all activities are appropriate for the degree of studentsʼ knowledge.
Students will learn some vocabulary connected with brands such as logo, brand loyalty and brand awareness. The vocabulary is accompanied by a cloze activity and a speaking activity to test the students’ comprehension of these words.
During this lesson students will rank their favourite brand names and discuss what they like/dislike about them. They will read and discuss the context of a text about brand naming and complete related vocabulary building exercises. Lastly students will create and brand their own imaginary product which they will present to the rest of the class.
Generally, this lesson plan directs to teaching speaking and all activities for enhancing for pronunciation and fluency. I would add tasks based on listening in order to teach students correct pronunciation. Because speaking can be improved by listening. All in all, the lesson plan is organized accurately and according to time management that helps all teachers to teach effectively.
