task 2 essay

All children should be given a free laptop when they start high school.
Do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that high schools should provide all their new students with laptops for free at the start of the education period. This essay agrees with this view.
The main reason why I believe high school students should be presented with a laptop is that it allows them to access information online. They will be able to use the Internet and different sources of knowledge on it, like e-libraries or encyclopedia sites, which is specially designed to give information on a huge range of topics. For example, an Internet library Goodreads.com offers its users books on thousands of subjects and genres, while Wikipedia.com is an encyclopedic website where one can find information on almost every conceivable topic. Using these sources undoubtedly makes it easy for students to complete their home assignments, engage in different project works during the educational year and prepare for their examinations.
In addition, thanks to the use of laptops given to them by the government, students are likely to become computer-literate throughout the high school period. This is because, as part of their studies, they will actively use their computers to perform certain tasks like preparing PowerPoint presentations or making Word documents on their assignments, all of which will serve to develop their computer skills. These skills will likely be of huge help when students compete for a job in the contemporary job market. For instance, in almost all white-collar jobs in Uzbekistan, employees are required to be able to use Microsoft Office and other basic computer programmes. In this case, job applicants knowing to use a computer well have a clear advantage over those without decent computer skills.
In conclusion, I agree that students should be gifted a laptop at no cost when they enter high school, as this not only gives them an opportunity to use different information sources via the Internet, but also teaches them computer-literacy to show its benefits in their career later in life.
