Oʻrta Osiyo koʻpgina meva turlarining vatani hisoblanadi. Asrlar davomida xalq seleksiyasi asosida oʻrik, olma, nok, yongʻoq, bodom, anor, tok va boshqalarning juda serhosil navlari yaratilgan. Ularning koʻplari sifat jihatidan dunyo kolleksiyasida oʻzining takrorlanmas oʻrniga ega. 20-asr boshlarida hozirgi Oʻzbekiston hududida taxminan 50 ming ga bogʻ, jumladan 22 ming ga mevazor, 37 ming ga tokzor boʻlgan. Bogʻlarning asosiy maydonlari Fargona vodiysi (24%), Toshkent vohasi (36%) va Zarafshon vodiysi (tokzorlarning 50%) ga toʻgʻri kelar edi.

Yetishtirilgan mevalar yangiligida isteʼmol etilgan, lekin qoqi va mayiz solish asosiy oʻrinda turgan. 20 yillarning 2-yarmidan ixtisoslashtirilgan mevachilik va tokchilik xoʻjaliklari barpo etila boshladi, togʻ va togʻ etaklari zonalarida joylashgan jamoa xoʻjaliklarida ham bu tarmoqqa katta eʼtibor berildi. Mevalarning nav tarkibini yaxshilash maqsadlarida olma, nok, uzum va boshqa ning Yevropa mamlakatlarida yetishtirilgan navlari keltirib ekildi. 50- yillar oxiri — 60- yillarda 2500—3000 ga bogʻ va tokzorlarga ega boʻlgan agrokombinatlar tashkil etildi.
